Translated to English manos a los Libros mean "Hands on the Books" This part of our ministry is focused on helping kids in the communities we serve have access to book and other reading material. The isn't a large library system like we have in the United States, so access is hard to come by.
There are 3 ways these books help the community.
1. Give children access to more material beyond just the study material. Whether it be a fun comic book or a book on world history, reading stimulates the mind to think creatively and retain knowledge for future use. Have access to different types and kinds of reading material will go a long way to help educate the children of the community.
2. Teens/Young adults reading club is a weekly event that happens in El Almirante and we hope to expand this club to other communities as we get more books and more Teens/Young Adults involved. Reading club is very simple, one of our worker, Juan Marcos, has a group of teens & young adults select books they want to ready and each week they discuss what they read and expand on ideas in the book.
3. Lastly, but very important, is people of the community can come read books also. What better way to partner with a community than giving them access to an enjoyable story!
